Welcome to the memorial page for

Adeline Antoinette (Corsi) DeVuono

July 8, 1925 ~ November 30, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Adeline Antoinette DeVuono “Addie” passed away on Thursday, November 30 peacefully at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia Maryland.  A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Scaggsville, Maryland on December 30 at 10:00.  Addie is survived by her two sons Anthony and William, their wives, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Addie was born on July 8, 1925 to Ermelindo and Catherine Corsi in Weirton West Virginia.  At an early age she took up ballet, and began winning local contests.  At the age of 15 she was sent to study at the School of American Ballet in New York.  After two years of study, Addie decided to strike out on her own.  She joined the Ringling Brothers Circus.  Her dance training led her to perform as an aerialist, but her favorite act was performing with her own elephant “Nellie”.

During much of WW2 Addie danced with the “Gay Nighties Review” and then moved on the Hamid Morton Circus.  After the war she traveled with a traveling variety show called “Star and Garter”.  That is where she met her soon to be husband Tony, who was one of the featured acts in the show.

Addie and Tony were married on February 7, 1948.  They were together for 65 years until his death in 2013.  In 1956 they opened the DeVuono School of Dance in South Philadelphia. They ran the school for 50 years teaching toe (point), tap, ballet, jazz, and acrobatics. They touched the lives and hearts of thousands of children and their parents with a special blend of love and discipline.

After retiring they lived a peaceful life in Philly before moving to the Columbia, Maryland area to be close to family.  They later moved into Sunrise Senior Living until their passing.
