Welcome to the memorial page for

Barbara L. Mutter

February 28, 1965 ~ March 6, 2016 (age 51) 51 Years Old

Barbara Lee Mutter passed away on Sunday, March 6th 2016 at the age of 51. Her parents Norma and Thomas Palmer preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband William, daughter Nikita, sister Monna, and brother Tom, along with nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends that loved her dearly.

Barbara was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and grew up in Duluth, Minnesota. She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1983. Not long after graduating she met William (Bill) Mutter whom she married June 8th, 1985. When Bill enlisted in the Air Force in June of 1986 she and Bill moved to Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado and she embarked on a new chapter in her life that would take her across oceans, meeting lifelong friends along the way. In 1993 Barbara and Bill welcomed their only child, Nikita, in to the world while stationed at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The small family of three was quickly whisked away to Aviano Air Force Base, Italy where Barbara volunteered in Bosnian refugee camps. As is with the military lifestyle, the family then moved to Travis Air Force Base, California; Fort George G. Meade, Maryland; Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany;  a return move to Fort George G. Mead, Maryland; Clarksburg, Maryland; and Laurel, Maryland. Barbara loved traveling and exposing herself and her family and friends to the wonders surrounding her no matter where she lived. In total she visited 18 different countries and over 20 different states.

After sending her daughter off to college, she and Bill settled in Laurel, Maryland. In her spare time she loved bird watching, singing, spending time with family and friends, and taking care of her cat Georgina. Barbara was a selfless woman who strived to always put others before herself no matter how sick she was. Even during her darkest days she was a ray of sunshine in someone else’s life. A woman of deep empathy and compassion, she will be missed immensely by everyone who knew her.
