Carl Edward Clever, Sr.

Carl Edward Clever, Sr., age 77, passed away at his residence in Savage, MD on Thursday, May 11, 2017.  Carl was born on July 21, 1939 in Waynesboro, PA to the late Herman August Clever and the late Margaret Elizabeth Clever (nee Fitz). 

Carl retired from the United States Army in July of 1978 after 21 years of Honorable service.  During his distinguished career Carl received numerous decorations and citations including the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service  Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 3 Battle Stars, Driver’s Badge, Missileman Badge, Expert (Rifle M16), and the Republic of Vietnam Personnel Cross of Gallantry with Palm. 

After his retirement from the Army, Carl went to work for the Patent and Trademark office from 1990-2006 and again went back to work as a school bus driver for Howard County.

Carl is survived by his wife of 32 years, Debbie Clever, their children; Tracy, Tuesday, Carl Jr., Gina and Travis and his grandchildren; Molly Staub, Annie Clever, Keyaira Clever and Calvin Clever.  He is also survived by his sister Paula Grove and his brothers Dale Clever, Jerry Clever and Terry Clever.  Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a son Troy and a sister Bev Grove.  Carl is also survived by his “Best Friends in the World”, Sharon and Buddy Keplinger.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD on Saturday, May 20, 2017 beginning at 2:00 PM.
