Charles Raymond Tansill, 78, of Jessup, MD passed away early in the morning on Sunday, May 21, 2017. Ray was the son of Doris Marie (Conner) Tansill and Charles Benjamin Tansill. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Crone Tansill, his daughter Helen Tansill, and his mother Doris Tansill. He leaves behind his father, Charles Benjamin Tansill, sisters MaryAnn Tansill, Patricia Magruder (Eric Magruder), Betty Ellen Ryan, and a brother, Dan Tansill, as well as his children Doris Tansill, Charles Lawrence Tansill (Linh Nguyen), George Tansill (Millie Tansill), Frances Davison (Sven Davison), Nelson and Erin Ferragut, and nine grandchildren.
Ray was an active member of St. Lawrence Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Jessup, MD. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a constant, smiling face at the 11:30 service. Throughout his life Ray worked to help families and couples have stronger relationships through, among others, Family Weekend, Engaged Encounter, Marriage Encounter, Retrouvaille, Pre-Cana, and Couple to Couple League.
A colorful life of Scouting, travel, and an eclectic mix of jobs gave Ray rich fodder for stories which he enjoyed sharing, usually with a side of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Miniatures. He was generous with his time and resources, acting as car repair mechanic, electrician, plumber, or simply friend to those in need amongst family, friends, and his community. His smile and sarcastic sense of humor will be missed.
Memorial donations can be made to Catholic Engaged Encounter. Vengeance donations can be made to your choice of cancer research groups or the American Diabetes Association. He will be laid out at Donaldson’s Funeral Home in Laurel, MD on Wednesday, May 24 from 6-9 pm and Thursday, May 25 from 6-9 pm. A Catholic funeral mass will be held at St. Lawrence starting at 11 am immediately followed by interment in the St. Lawrence Cemetery. His reception will be the final event ever to be held in the old St. Lawrence Parish Hall. It will be a pot luck event; please bring a dish to share.
