George Albert Carder died peacefully at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer on February 6, 2017 at the age of 76.
He was born to Hale and Cecilia Carder on May 29th, 1940 in Cumberland MD. He graduated from LaSalle Catholic High School in 1958.
George was honorably discharged from Submariner Service in the USN in 1964. He graduated from Southeastern University 1968 with a BS in Business Administration. He followed in the footsteps of many relatives and started his career in public service with the US Government Department of Agriculture from which he retired in 1997.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Hale and Cecilia of Mt. Savage MD and sister Helen Zerbach of Fresno CA, and Step-son Walter Holowchak of Laurel, MD.
George is survived by his wife of 27 years, Helen of New Carrollton MD. His children JoAnn Volk and husband Mark of Peoria IL, Joseph Carder and wife Suzanne of Walworth NY and John Carder of Reisterstown MD. His Brother Bob Carder and wife Pat of Mt. Savage MD and sister Francis Burall and husband Bob of New Carrollton MD. His Step-Children Rose Houghton and husband Steve of Savage, MD, Carole Malugani and husband Dale of Fort Worth, TX and Steven Holowchak of Laurel, MD.
George had 14 Grandchildren as well as numerous Great Grandchildren and Nieces and Nephews.
A memorial will be held on Sunday February 12th at 2:00 PM at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707 followed by a Memorial luncheon at the Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department, 3498 Fort Meade Road, Laurel, MD 20724
George will be laid to rest at Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
