George Wesley Lee Walter

George Wesley Lee Walter, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home on July 24, 2015. He was the loving husband of the late Carrie M. Walter and father of John M. Walter, Ann E. Quigg, Nancy M. Webster, Vicki L. Clem, the late Donald S. Kearton and the late Edwin E. Kearton; brother of the late Hazel Wilkerson. He was the proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Born 26 April 1922, Mr. Walter was a life long Howard County resident. He was born in Fulton and resided in North Laurel for the past 69 years. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1940.

During WWII, as a member of the U.S. Army 611th Ordinance Ammunition Company, Mr. Walter participated in campaigns in New Guinea, the Philippines, and the landing on Japan. He was honorably discharged from the Army in November 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60 of Laurel, MD.

Mr. Walter retired from the Department of Agriculture with over 30 years of service as a Research Technician specializing in the development of disease and insect-resistant plants. He loved gardening and was well known locally for his prize tomatoes. Mr. Walter was also an avid Orioles fan.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Avenue in Laurel on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 from 2:00 PM until 4: PM and 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. A funeral service and interment will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (where he was a life long member) in Fulton, MD on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 beginning at 11:00 AM.
