John Thomas Perone Jr.

John Thomas Perone, Jr., passed away peacefully on October 5, 2017.

John was the beloved son of the late John Perone, Sr. and Margaret Perone.

He is survived by siblings, children and grandchildren, including many loving family members, dear friends and business associates.

John Perone was remarkable in so many ways. He lived his life to the fullest and touched so many people during his time here with us. He was the owner of Perone Performance Products Company.

He was independent - a leader not a follower; he was his own person. He was proud of his heritage and his family.

It was important for John to establish and maintain life-long friendships. He often spent time visiting those with whom he had a heart-felt desire to comfort and encourage and protect. He was an avid Harley Davidson rider and enthusiast; and, a proud member of the HOGS Association of Laurel, Maryland. He loved to be in his canoe on the water and really enjoyed country and bluegrass music at local establishments. He loved spending time with his loving family & friends, especially during holidays. He loved his Dunkin Donuts coffee time every morning.

John loved his church here in Laurel (Resurrection of our Lord) and made every effort to attend mass as often as he could.

John loved the holidays. His favorite was Christmas as he admired the Christmas spirit in all of us and enjoyed that time of year working hard to keep in touch with his friends, business associates and family. Mailing out Christmas cards to each and every one of us was a practiced he maintained not just once, twice, or randomly, but  throughout his entire lifetime and he delighted to do so. His caring nature of giving anonymously was extended to many. His life touched so many others through his actions and his words. He will always be remembered for his hard work as a businessman and skills as a welder and his ability to manage many things, a designer of trailers, his strength, courage, wisdom, and attention to details, and self efficacy. He would always share an encouraging word to promote smiles.  

He would say, "Relationships are not perfect, because the people in it are not perfect".

He would say this to comfort a disappointed feeling or a frustrated thought.

And then he would encourage by saying, "Stop cryin' now and think of something happy".

He would say this because he believed that when you can can put a smile on someone's face, you have accomplished something good in your day.

And when I would tell him that he was the best big brother ever,

he'd reply with a quick wit that had us both smiling, and say:

I'M THE ONLY BIG BOTHER YOU HAVE.

My brother wasn't much for long conversations. His words were few, his personal business was private, and his communicated message was direct and meaningful.

He'd make calls at night to check in...

He'd say, "I just called to say good night and I love you".

There would be a short pause, and he'd continue:

"GOOD NIGHT AND I LOVE YOU".

Each of us has our own memories of our association with John Perone.

This candid and natural picture of him, as a registered and trained marathon runner, captures the essence of many things he represented in his life. He would want us to remember his energy and endurance when he ran his race... and at times-- it was by his own choice. He would want us to see him modeling courage, wisdom and confidence. He would want us to remember to never give up hope because he would want us to be reminded that you can "keep pluggin" away till you reach your goals".

My brother ran his final race across the finish line to glory and was crowned victoriously for his work here on earth. With determination and continuous faith, he kept his focus to reach his end goal with God by his side. Let us encourage one another as we embrace all those happy memories we have; and, let us share them in celebration of my brother's accomplishments and learn that we, too, can follow his model of leadership and be a leader as well.

He ran the marathon of life the way only he knew how to run it. He was cheered on by many who understood his purpose and direction along the way. For everything and to every one, he was truly grateful and made special effort of personal acknowledgement.  His ability to reach out to others and help them feel better and protect them from harm and put a smile on their face is greatest gift for him to leave behind for us to cherish.

We will remember him through the many people still left behind whose lives he touched so positively.

My big brother, the milestones of your race are complete. Your job was well done. We love you and we are proud of you.

For those of us who truly knew John Perone, he will be deeply missed.
