Joseph P. “Joe” Loftus was born on April 21, 1930 in Scranton, PA. Joe’s parents were James and Mary Loftus. Mary came to America from Ireland. Joe was one of five children: Jean Tomasello, Leo Loftus, Mary Loftus and James Loftus all of whom predeceased Joe. Joe was raised in Scranton where he attended and graduated from St. Paul’s School in 1948. He worked for various insurance companies in Pennsylvania and in Maryland until he retired from reliance Insurance in 1988. Joe was especially interested in sports and was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, the Washington Nationals and the Maryland Terrapins. Joe and his loving wife, Jan, loved to travel and they covered a great deal of the United States, Canada and Europe. He also loved the time he spent in Ocean City as he loved the beach.
In addition to his beloved wife, Jan, whom he married in October 1975, Joe is survived by his daughters Linda L. Heskett and Sandra A. Holland; his grandchildren Johanna Heskett, Nicole H. Hommel and her husband Scott, Joshua Heskett and his wife Kelly; great-grandchildren Isabella Heskett, Benjamin Heskett and Autumn Hommel. Joe is also survived by his step-daughter Lisa Taylor and her husband John; step-granddaughter Kelly T. Davenport and her husband Allen. Many nieces and nephews from Scranton, PA and Point Pleasant, NJ also survive.
A visitation will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. on Monday May 14, from 4 until 6 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Laurel Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will be held in Ivy Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Laurel Presbyterian Church, the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department or the Make A Wish Foundation for Children.
