Joseph Howard Scoville

June 26, 1944 — December 28, 2016

On December 28, 2016 Joseph H. Scoville passed away peacefully. He is survived by his former spouse Nancy Scoville, his children Kenneth Scoville and Karyn Ialeggio, their spouses Jane Bailey and Dan Ialeggio, his grandchildren Ella, Gibby, & Ben Scoville and Lia & Alexandra Ialeggio, and his siblings Steve Scoville & his wife Dorothy, Frank Scoville & his wife Jean, and Linda Chakwin & her husband Bill, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe grew up in Berywn Heights and attended High Point High School and the University of Maryland.  After marrying Nancy in 1966, he became a real estate agent, ultimately managing a Long and Foster office in Laurel.  He was a great father to Ken and Karyn, and coached them for many years in both baseball and basketball.  Three of his favorite places were Lake George, Saratoga and Las Vegas. He was able to travel to, and spend a lot time at, all three during his retirement years. As a child, he spent many summers in Hague on Lake George, NY, and he returned there many times with his family over the years. He loved people and had a wide circle of friends all over the country – many of them poker buddies, as he loved to play any card game, especially poker.  He spent most of his last three family vacations back in Hague playing rummikub with his grandchildren and cribbage with Ken.

It was a difficult last two years for Joe, but he never stood still.  He visited friends in Las Vegas, Chicago, Saratoga, Charlotte, Maine and Atlanta.  During his last two weeks, his company never stopped coming, and with them would come crab cakes and even southern Maryland stuffed ham. He even managed a hand of pinochle just a week before his death.  He lived life to the fullest to the very end.

Relatives and friends are invited to Donaldson Funeral Home (313 Talbott Avenue Laurel, MD 20707) to visit on Tuesday, January 3,  4 - 7 pm and for the funeral service on Wednesday at 11:30 am.  Interment to follow funeral service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
