Mary Grace (Heiland) Pavlovich, 80, of Laurel, Maryland, passed to Heaven on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Fairland Nursing Home, Silver Spring, MD, after many courageous years of battling numerous health issues.

 

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Dorsey and (Donnell Chew) of Laurel MD; Danell and (James Powell) of Gillette, WY; one brother, Joseph (Ed) Heiland of Denver; grandchildren Joseph (Joey) McCauley of Casper, WY; and Samantha (Sami) Chew of Laurel; great-granddaughter, Evlynn McCauley; and special cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ed and Grace Rhoads; grandparents, Joseph and Barbara Heiland; her parents, Joe and Myrna Heiland; baby sisters Patricia and Betty; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

 

She was born June 16, 1934, to Myrna and Joe Heiland in Gillette, Wyoming. She was raised and attended school in Gillette, graduating from Campbell County High School in 1952. She was the 1953 Rodeo Queen of Sheridan-Wyo Rodeo. After moving to Los Angeles, in 1959, she married her sweetheart and long-time friend, Robert (Bob) Pavlovich. Mary cherished her husband, of 47 wonderful years. They had two daughters, Barbara (Barbie) and Danell. They moved a lot while Bob was a geologist with the federal government. They lived in various places San Bernardino, Calif., Las Vegas, Phoenix, Rialto, Calif., Holtville, Calif., and Washington, D.C. She worked a variety of jobs including a telephone operator for Mountain Bell, J C Penney Catalog Center, and the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum Library, where she was known as “Sweet Marie”, and where she retired in 1999. 

 

In 2002, she and her husband moved to The Villages, Florida, a retirement community. Bob passed away in 2006, and in 2012, she moved to Laurel, Maryland to be near her daughter, Barbie and her family. She was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed reading, playing cards, bocce, dining out, visiting with friends in the Villages, cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.

 

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home in Laurel, MD on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
