Mary Anne Royster, "Ari", 70 years old of Laurel, MD, passed away on December 5, 2016
from complications due to cystic fibrosis. Dr. Royster was the daughter of the late
James F. and Margaret Waugh Royster of Danville, KY. She was born in Danville,
attended Centre College and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University.
She taught at the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville for four years and then
moved to Washington, DC to study counseling at Gallaudet College( now university.)
She received her Ph.D, from Gallaudet University in special education administration in
1995. While working at Gallaudet she held numerous positions including Director of
Student Special Services, Coordinator of Personal Counseling, Special Assistant to the
Provost and Special Assistant to the Vice President for Pre College Programs.
A resident of Laurel, Maryland for over 35 years, Dr. Royster was a member of First
United Methodist Church. She is survived by her god children Daniel Turner (Ana) of
Sykesville, Maryland, Katrina Turner of Laurel, MD and Kara Brasel Mondragon (Tony)
of Midland, Texas as well as numerous cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,
Gallaudet University or the Wounded Warriors Project.
