Ralph G. Loen

Ralph G. Loen passed away on March 9, 2017 in Columbia, MD. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in the Philadelphia area.  Ralph served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict as an electronics technician aboard a destroyer escort. After graduating from Gettysburg College he continued his education at the University of Maryland earning a Master’s Degree. His education led him to a career teaching with the Prince George’s County Board of Education as a reading specialist. He received his Eagle Scout with bronze palm, Silver Beaver Award, Order of the Arrow and God and Service Recognition. Ralph has been active in many capacities of Boy Scouts as Troop Leader, Merit Badge Counselor and District Commissioner. Routinely donated blood to the American Red Cross throughout his life, sang in the church choir, was an avid gardener and runner. Long-time member of the Laurel Presbyterian Church. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Lois I. Loen (-nee Kist); devoted father of Elizabeth Haney and her husband Anthony, Helene Winters and her husband Kevin; loving grandfather of Eric and Valerie Haney, Matthew and Madeline Winters. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation at the Donaldson Funeral Home, PA. 313 Talbott Avenue Laurel, MD 20707 on Friday, March 17th from 6 until 8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 11 am at Laurel Presbyterian Church 7610 Old Sandy Spring Rd, Laurel, MD 20707.
