Robert Ernest O'Brien

Robert O’Brien was born February 19, 1934 in Flint, Michigan to Robert J. O’Brien and Molly (Willerth). He graduated from Georgetown School of Foreign Service in 1956.

 He had also graduated from the School of Catholic University, Washington D.C. in 1966.

Robert married Ruth (Poczekaj) O’Brien in Flint, Michigan, August 26, 1961. He worked in Washington D.C. and its surrounding areas for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, U.S. Commission of Air Quality Control, and U.S. Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1993.

Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus Chapter, of St. Mary’s church in Laurel, MD. He was also K of C of the 4th Degree, College Park, MD from 1970-1993. Robert is also a retired member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association (1995-2018). He served as VP for Federal Legislation Action and Membership Committee.

Robert is survived by children: Robert L. O'Brien, Jane V. Elliott [O'Brien] and Matthew H. Elliott spouse,Jason E. O’Brien and Lori O’Brien [Solomon] spouse, Margaret R. Cartney [O’Brien] and Douglas A. Cartney, spouse. Grandchildren are: Alan E. Elliott, Katherine R. Cartney, Clare B. Cartney, Rachel K. O’Brien and Rebecca M. O’Brien.

We remember many cousins from the O’Brien family living in Florida and Michigan. Many cousins from the Willerth family living in Lees Summit, MO., Ashland WI, Mellen, WI, Glidden WI., Park Falls, WI, Northlake, Ill., and California.

 A private committal with military honors will take place at a later date.
