Thomas Arthur Harris, 73, of Laurel, Maryland passed away April 23, 2017.
He was born on August 18, 1943 to Thomas Arthur Harris, Sr. and Ella Mae Harris at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C.
He worked for 30 years at Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, which later became Bell Atlantic, starting as a lineman and retiring from Information Systems (computer programmer) in 1991. He was an avid Redskins fan, and a MOPAR car enthusiast, and for many years proudly drove his restored 1970 Charger, affectionately called ‘Red”. He also was a Civil War history buff.
He served his country in the U.S. Army for 3 years with a one year tour of duty in Viet Nam from January 1968 to January 1969 and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant Artillery , United States Army , Battery B, 1st Battalion, 92nd Artillery. He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force, The Bronze Star Medal With "V" Device for exceptional heroism in connection with military operations against an armed hostile force and The Army Commendation Medal For Meritorious Achievement.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Harris, his children Kimberly Radtke (Jeff), Thomas Allen Harris, and Craig Carner, his sisters Patsy Clark and Dorothy Luckett, sisters in law Shari Childs and Mary Koenig (Rick), his grandson Cameron Radtke, his dog Esme, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. with Memorial Service following at 4 P.M. Internment private.
