Zara E. Oliver

January 7, 1915 ~ January 15, 2017 (age 102) 102 Years Old


Zara E. Oliver, a resident of Laurel, passed away on January 15, 2017 at Morningside House of Laurel.  She was 102.  She was born on January 7, 1915 to the late Richard and Sarah Hardisty in New York.  Growing up, she lived on a tobacco and cattle farm in Mitchellville, MD with her father while her mother worked in New York as a seamstress.  The house in Mitchellville is now a historical home called Melford.  She later moved to Silver Spring in 1950 and then to St. Michaels and Easton, MD in 1987.  She was formerly a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Silver Spring and St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton.   Zara worked as an Art teacher in New York at Parochial Schools and enjoyed painting.  She also worked at her husband’s medical practice in Silver Spring as his bookkeeper.  She was very involved in the Women’s  Auxiliary for the Medical Faculty . 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Norman Oliver, MD; and siblings George, Richard, John, Allene, Lucille, and Florence.

 She is survived by her loving children Norman J. Oliver and his wife Karen, Mark Oliver and his wife Sylvia, Jeff Oliver and his wife Linda, Laura Oliver and her husband Steve Fillebrown, and Sandra Clatworthy and her husband Sam; cherished grandchildren Alicia Oliver-Krueger, Bridget Bowers, Jessica Britton, Nicholas, Sarah, and Jennifer Oliver, Mackenzie Warren, Jason and Justin Clatworthy; great-grandchildren Gabrielle, Mikaela, and Lukas Oliver and Nathan LaFon; and sister Emily Schubert.
