Calvin Ricky Greenwood

Calvin Ricky Greenwood,65, of Laurel MD, formerly of Roanoke, VA was born February 4, 1954, passed away suddenly on January 15, 2020.

He is preceded in death by his Mother, Ruby Strickland; Father, Calvin Greenwood; Stepfather, Paul Strickland; sister, JoAnn Holland; brothers, Don Greenwood and Micky Strickland; mother in law, Nancy Cochrane and brother in law, Troy Harris.

He is survived by the love of his life, Debbie; son, Justin and wife Allison; daughter, Katie and partner Chris and his pride and joy grandchildren, Cassidy and Talon; sisters, Paula (Dewey) Gibson; Gloria(Troy) Harris; and Tammy (Jay) Heck, sister in law Ruth (Don) Greenwood, brother in law Gerald (JoAnn) Holland, his cherished aunts Virginia Albrecht and Nadine Prillaman; and many close nieces and nephews. 

Ricky was recently retired from Bloomberg, Washington DC, where he enjoyed working assignments at the Pentagon, Capitol, White House and the “secret bat cave”. 

He enjoyed vacations to the Outer Banks of NC and adored strolling down the streets of various European cities with loved ones by his side.  He couldn’t believe a little SE Roanoke boy was walking the streets of Paris. 

He was also an avid historian; he devoted much of his time to chronicling the traditions and history of his beloved family.  Thanks to his dedication, detailed and expansive family trees and memories have been preserved for future generations to come.

He was an avid fan of the Washington Capitals hockey and the Duke Blue Devils basketball teams.

Ricky had a great sense of humor and was the most compassionate person.

His last recorded words were a post on Facebook. He had taken a picture during one of his many walks of a lake.  He entitled it “Life is beautiful”.   Even in his passing, he is leaving all of us words of wisdom. 

Services will be held on January 25, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.  Family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.  Close family friend and Pastor, JJ Davis officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations would be made in the honor of Ricky to the Michael J Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research.
