Gordon Thomas Whitehead (Tommy), 90 of Laurel passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Aril 8, 2024.
He was born on October 30, 1933 in Savage Maryland to the late William Lee Whitehead and late Dollie Marie (Gray) Whitehead, Luber.
He was signed by the Baltimore Orioles to a minor league contract to play 3rd base as a teenager, but unfortunately was drafted by the Army shortly after. While in the Army he was able to continue to play ball for the Ft. Stewart Rockets. Once he was discharged, he played one year with the Pensacola Dons in 1958. He then worked for Westinghouse Electronic Systems Group where he was a Field Engineer and retired in 1989. Tom attended Bethel Assembly of God in Jessup, Maryland. He was an avid golfer at Gunpowder, Patuxent Greens, and Cross Creek where he was club champion and senior club champion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved, late wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Whitehead, and his brother William L. Whitehead. Tom is survived by his brother Glen Whitehead; loving children Kirt Whitehead and his wife Ellen; Kim Galotta and her husband John; devoted grandchildren Tom Galotta and wife Maru, Jeweli Galotta, Jeff Galotta and wife Chelsea, Gabi Jermann, Makayla Whitehead; Great-grandchildren Jazzy, Keaghan, Behr, Nathan, Bianca, Charlie and Abby Galotta.
Services will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. Monday April 15, 2024 with visitation from 10 to 11 AM. Funeral Service at 11 AM
