Ruth Aileene Faircloth Kent

Ruth Aileene Faircloth Kent of Laurel, Maryland, 93, died Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at White Oak Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was born on July 4, 1927 in Douglas, Georgia to Joseph A. B. and Cordelia Quinn Faircloth.

She was the devoted wife of George C. Kent of St. Simons Island, Georgia. They married on August 14, 1949 in Thomasville, Georgia. They were married for almost 31 years until he died in 1980.

She is survived by her stepson Micheal John Kent of Maplewood, New Jersey and her two daughters Jacqueline Kent Telford of Kerrville, Texas and Martha Dee Kent of Rockville, Maryland.

She enjoyed working. During WWII, prior to her marriage she worked for the Department of the Navy at Glencoe Naval Air Station in Georgia. After her marriage, she accompanied her husband to his many duty stations, raising her family, and working for various organizations. Her husband’s last duty station was in the Washington DC area. Here she again worked for the Department of the Navy for a career lasting over 20 years. She retired in 1998 after serving as Deputy Director of Security for one of the facilities of the Office of Naval Research.

Visitation will not be held due to Coronavirus public health considerations. The funeral service will be held at St. Philips Episcopal Church, 522 Main Street, Laurel, Maryland on April 22 at 11 AM. A private burial for immediate family will follow immediately afterward at Union Cemetery, 3001 Spencerville Road, Burtonsville, Maryland.
