Sheila I. Anderson, born, raised, and a lifelong resident of Laurel, went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2021. Sheila was born on November 11, 1961, to the late Norman C. and Phyllis W. Iglehart, also lifelong residents of Laurel.
Sheila's father was a National square dance caller, and many times she went to sleep listening to her father practice his calling in the basement. She had no real choice but to learn how to square dance, however she came to enjoy it even into adulthood; she would tell you that her father was her very best partner, very light and smooth on his feet despite the style of dance. Aside from square dancing, Sheila enjoyed dance and music in general, taking tap and ballet growing up, performing with the creative dance group at her church, also listening to gospel and country music in later years.
Sheila was still employed at USDA, Beltsville, working as a Procurement Technician in the same organization which spanned over 40 years. She was dependable and conscientious, efficient and accurate which reflected in her work; Sheila took pride in her work and truly loved it. She quickly became part of the USDA family, making numerous friends, some very close; many regarded her as a highly valued worker. Throughout Sheila's career she was presented countless accolades including performance, extra effort, spot, and time off awards.
She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Laurel after following her heart to find a place of worship where she felt reassurance and contentment. She joined the church on May 22, 2016, and was baptized on June 12 of the same year, with her family in attendance to rejoice as she celebrated her baptism.
Sheila's passions included long walks, summer with her pool buddies, visiting North Beach and Kent Island to feed the ducks and soak up the view, watching TV sitcoms, also caring for and spending time with her pets whom she dearly loved.
Sheila's husband, Richard, preceded her in death; she is survived by her sisters Kathy (Ken) and Sue.
Family and friends are welcome at Donaldson's Funeral Home, Laurel, on Monday, April 19, 2021, for visitation from 5-7PM.
