Audrey Delema Salazar, 52 of Catonsville, Maryland passed away May 6, 2019, surrounded by family.
Audrey was born June 2, 1966 in Silver Spring, Maryland to Roger and Alta (Delaney) Edwards of Abingdon, Virginia. Audrey was a 1984 graduate of Laurel High School and 1988 graduate of Salisbury University. Audrey earned a Master’s degree in 1994 from National Louis University.
Audrey began her teaching career in elementary education in Montgomery County, Maryland. Audrey spent two years with the Department of Defense teaching elementary school, on base, in Dolan Barracks, Schwäbisch Hall, Germany.
Audrey was married in Germany and gave birth to Cody Edwards Salazar in May 1994, in Wurzburg, Germany. A second son joined the family in 1995.
Audrey enjoyed a green thumb and took pride in her flower gardens. Audrey loved traveling with friends and family, especially if that meant a trip to the beach where she enjoyed worshipping the sun. Audrey cherished “her kids,” current and past, and was always touched when former students came back to visit and share with her what her guidance, support, and encouragement meant to them and how she impacted their lives.
In addition to Audrey’s sons, Cody and Tyler Salazar, she is survived by her parents, Roger and Alta Edwards, sister, Marie Stancovich of Marriottsville, Maryland, niece Shelby and her husband Frank Cinquegrani of Sykesville, Maryland, nephew Wade Stancovich and his girlfriend, Nicole Alvarez, both of Eldersburg, Maryland, and Audrey’s son Cody’s long-time girlfriend, Molly Ertel. Audrey is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins across the United States.
A gathering to celebrate Audrey’s life will be held Saturday, May 18th at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707 from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm. Audrey wished for friends and family to join together (Dutch treat) at her favorite restaurant, La Palapa 8307 Main Street, Ellicott City to laugh, share memories, and toast a life well lived after the 5-7 pm gathering. Memorial donations may be made to a non-profit developed at Audrey’s request. Kendall and Kids will benefit underprivileged children whom Audrey was so passionate about mentoring.
