Dubois Vance Ashton Jr. entered eternal rest on June 17, 2019 Vance was the beloved husband of Mykelle Ashton; devoted father of Spencer Ashton and Siarra McCutchen; loving grandfather of Robert, Nathan and Kaydence; dear son of Ellen Ashton and the late Dubois V. Ashton Sr. Vance is also survived by a host of relatives and friends.
Vance was born on April 09, 1969 in Washington, DC. He graduated from Fairmont Heights High School in 1987, excelling in math, science and accounting. Shortly after high school, Vance began his career as a purchasing manager for the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art and the National History Museum. A few years later he began working at the United States Senate, Sergeant at Arms. At the Senate, he excelled as a Data Processing Specialist and was later promoted to the Systems Administrator for the Sergeant at Arms, Printing, Graphics and Direct Mail department. He worked for the Sergeant at Arms for over twenty-seven years and was a loyal and dedicated employee to the organization and will be dearly missed.
Vance was well known for helping anyone in need with computer, car, home repair, tax documents and financial matters. In his younger days he was known for being the designated disc jockey, bartender and chef at most events. Vance loved all kinds of music. His primary choice of music was Jazz but he was well known for his elaborate collection of sound of the District of Columbia, Go-Go. He was generous with his time and he was willing to lend a hand whenever needed. Vance was witty and always dedicated himself to seeing any project through completion. He loved playing card games, chess, and board games.
We will miss you Hubby, Dad, Granddaddy Vance, God-Father Vance and Uncle Vance.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. 313 Talbott Avenue Laurel, Maryland on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from 11am until the time of the memorial service at 12 pm.
