Elizabeth Lewis Stewart

Elizabeth L. Stewart , 92, of Laurel, MD passed away quietly on August 9th, 2017.

Elizabeth was born in Orange County, VA on September 3rd, 1924.  She was one of three children born to William M. Lewis and Mabel M. Brock.  She moved to Washington, DC with her mother and siblings as a young child where she attended Garnett-Patterson Junior High School and Cardozo High School.

 
Elizabeth married Elton Alcott Stewart in 1963 and had one child which she raised as a single parent.

She worked for several federal agencies and retired from the U.S. State Department in 1977 after 33 years of federal service.

Reading, nature documentaries and good conversation were some of the past times that Elizabeth enjoyed the most.  She had a contagious laugh and a generous nature. 

In 2009, Elizabeth was diagnosed with dementia.  She spent the last few months of her life confined to her wheelchair and bed.  Although in poor health, she seldom complained and tried her best to respond to family and friends.

Elizabeth is survived by one daughter, Sandra Stewart-Clark and two nephews, Terry and Kevin Lewis.   She was preceded in death by her siblings, Frances Jennings and Clarence Lewis.

She can never be forgotten or replaced and her passing has left a great emptiness in the lives of those she touched.
