Jerry (Girolomo) Sapienza of Laurel, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the age of 92.
He was born May 11, 1926 to Nunzio and Michelina Sapienza in Brooklyn, NY. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Pierina , who he married in Sicily and brought to the United States on their honeymoon and never left.
Jerry was a member of Resurrection Parish and frequently visited the Glen Burnie Moose Club and other local senior centers.
He had a successful career in construction as a master plasterer/dry-wall finisher. His talents were sought out by many across the Washington Metropolitan area. Some of Jerry’s noted projects included working on the first high-rise in Ocean City, MD, in the homes of Senators, local sports celebrities, in museums and government landmarks. He was most proud of his involvement in the dome renovation at the State House in Annapolis in the 1990’s.
He enjoyed dancing, and was known for competing in ball room during his youth in Italy, hunting, fishing, bowling (in his younger years) and watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
He is survived by his children, Eileen Farrar, Maria and her husband David Myers, Diana and her husband John Ackermann, grandchildren, Cristin Farrar, Tammi and her husband Jason Ainsfield, Ashley and her husband Nicholas Barger and Nicholas Ackermann, great-granddaughters, Winter Opal Ainsfield, Sofia Grace Barger.
