John “Nick” Nicholson, Jr., a life long resident of Laurel, MD, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018. Nick was born in Laurel to the late John, Sr. and Margaret Nicholson. Nick graduated from Laurel High School in1961 and went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam from 1967-1968. He went on to work as an electrician, a Trailways bus driver and then a truck driver for Aggregate Industries. As a professional truck driver, Nick twice took home first place honors in the Maryland State Cement Mixer Driving Rodeo. Nick was a life member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 60, Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department. He had fifty years of service to both departments. He also was a Delegate to the PGCVFRA where he was inducted into their Hall of Fame and he was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award, from the state of Maryland, for Volunteerism.
Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Marian A. Nicholson; his children Kristi Leigh and her husband Webe Harmon, Frank Howard and his wife Stephanie and Allyson Marie and her husband Michael Rabaiotti and sister in law Nancy Nicholson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kaitlyn Leigh, Bella Nicole, Madison Grace, Maggie Irene, Michael Bryan and Adelyn Harper as well as several nieces and nephews. His brother Donald Lee Nicholson preceded Nick in passing.
A visitation will be held at the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, 7411 Cherry Lane, Laurel, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association service will begin at 7:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department on Thursday, beginning at 11 am. Interment will be held in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
