Julian Oliver Knisley, Jr.

Julian Oliver Knisley, Jr, better known as “Ollie” passed away Monday, May 28, 2018. He was born in Laurel to the late Julian Oliver, Sr. and Sadie Lee. Ollie graduated from Laurel High School in 1950. In 1951 he both joined the U.S. Army and married Bertalie “Bertie” Louise. Ollie proudly served his country, traveling with Bertie and living in France for a short tour of duty.

Stateside in 1954 Ollie then joined the US Department of Interior Fish & Wildlife Service as a Pathology Technician where he worked for 28 years. He was a member of Laurel’s American Legion throughout his life. While a life-long resident of Laurel, Ollie spent his last 4 years in West Friendship, MD at Meadows Assisted Living.

Ollie is survived by his three children: Julian Oliver, III and his wife Claudine Knisley, James Alfred and his wife Tamara Knisley, and Tamie Mae and her husband Michael Gassaway. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren Charles Robert, Sr., David Lee and his wife Megan, Beau Stephen and Brianna Louise and his 4 great grandchildren Charles Robert, Jr., Xander McAfee, Gracyn Abigail, and Olivia Laurice. Ollie’s wife of over 46 years, Bertie, passed away in 1998. Two of Ollie’s brothers also preceded his death, Charles and Travis. Robert, Ollie’s living brother and his wife Frances currently reside in Snow Hill, MD.

A visitation will be held at Donaldson’s Funeral Home in Laurel on Saturday, June 2 from 10 to 11. The service will take place at 11 followed by the internment in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
