Karen Lu Rittenhouse

Karen L. Rittenhouse, 80, a long-time resident of Hampton VA and Winchester VA, died Sunday,
September 10, 2017 in Rockville, MD.

Mrs. Rittenhouse was born August 6, 1937 in Evergreen Park, IL; the daughter of William and Lillian
Holmberg Suesse. She married Edward Rittenhouse on May 31, 1958 in the Chicago area.

Before retirement in 1998, she was librarian at Francis Asbury Elementary School in Hampton VA for 25
years. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hampton, then after moving to Winchester
in retirement, she was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. An avid reader herself, she
encouraged the love of reading in her children and grandchildren with gifts of books. She also assisted
with teaching ESL classes in Winchester. She enjoyed many musical theater productions and classical
music concerts at Shenandoah University.

She is survived by her children, Kirk Rittenhouse of Laurel MD and Bruce Rittenhouse of La Grange IL,
and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Rittenhouse and a son,
