Lewis Gilbert “Gil” Vance of Hyattsville and Laurel, MD, passed away on May 8, 2018. Born in Bowie in 1928, Gil was the son of James Herbert and Mary Magdalene Parker Vance. Gil Vance was a dedicated, kind and loving family man. He adored Nancy and their family vacations to the beach and Deep Creek Lake where he enjoyed the companionship of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of whom he was so proud. Family meant everything to him and he was a loving and loved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves a legacy of love and fidelity to all who knew him and will be missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary, Alma, Shirley and brothers James, Frederick, Nelson, Harold and Stanley as well as his grandson James. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 71 years, Nancy, and his children Douglas, Diane, Cathy (Wes) and James. He loved his grandchildren Matt, Nick, Chris, Brandon, Collin (Jennifer), Evan (Kia), Lauren, Allison (Donnell) and Jason (Alicia). He was enchanted by his great grandchildren Peyton, Savannah, Evie, Brady, Alivia, Caitlyn, Gabe, Dylan, Porter, Josephine, Elijah, Kaila, Isabel, and Sophia. Gil was a member of the Episcopal Church. Visitation will be on Monday, May 14 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbot Avenue (Rte. 198W), Laurel, MD 20707. The funeral will be in the chapel at Donaldson’s funeral home on Tuesday, May 15 at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. Marks Cemetery, Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD. Memorial donations can be made in Gil’s honor to Children's National Hospital, 111 Michigan Avenue, Washington, DC 20010.
