She was preceded in death by her parents, John J. (1981)and Theresa Ganey(1971) and her brothers Donnie (1978) and Paul (2012).
Mary was “Aunt Mary” to several generations of nieces and nephews. Birthdays and Christmas brought cards with a few dollars to spend. One of her most prized possessions was a calendar where she kept track of all birthdays and other special days. Transferring that information was a daunting but beloved task at the beginning of each year.
Born in Washington DC on August 28, 1928. She attended Notre Dame Academy and graduated in 1946. She went to work in the moving industry. She worked as office staff and worked her way up to Office Manager. She then moved on to become the first female dispatcher in the moving industry, working at Nationwide and Atlas Van Lines in that capacity.
Mary spent her working years traveling extensively in the United States and Europe. She also took many road trips with her friends from high school and word got out that these trips were hilariously fun. Word has it some of these road trips involved bus trips to area casinos. Mary lived primarily in and around Washington DC. most of her life.
Beginning in her childhood, the family had regular penny poker games on Friday nights. The faces at the table changed but the fun, good natured teasing and special family time continued. Many nieces and nephews learned poker at these fun nights.
Long known for her positive outlook on life and her sense of humor, Mary was loved and cherished by all who knew her.
