Steward Lee Mitchell, Sr, age 76 of Laurel, Maryland, passed away on January 6, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 27, 1942 to Lillian and William Mitchell of Laurel, Maryland. He was born in his grandmother and grandfather's home on Montgomery Street in Laurel, Maryland.
He was a graduate and President of Laurel Senior High School class of 1960. He was a member of the member of the Fraternal Order of Police DC Lodge #1, the Royal GTO's and Pontiacs club with his son Stew. He and his son Stew joined the club during the restoration of their GTO.
He retired after 42 years from the Superior Court, IT Division, in Washington, DC.
He enjoyed his family, grandchildren and his friends. You could often find him and Sharon in Solomon's Island enjoying their boat, Pleasure Pace. He also enjoyed Sunset Beach, NC yearly with his wife Sharon and all of his family. He was also often found riding his John Deere tractor taking care of his yard work and the power lines weekly with expert skill. He found a passion with his son Stew restoring their 1966 GTO with weekly trips to work on the car and lunches that they enjoyed together.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Sharon Hall Mitchell, son Steward Lee Mitchell, Jr. , his wife Kathy Mitchell, grandsons; Zachary Ellis Mitchell, Austin Blair Mitchell and Logan Steward Mitchell.
He is survived by many family members including nephews, nieces, and dear friends that he considered family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Lillian and William "Butts" Mitchell, brother William (Billy) Mitchell and sister Joyce Horn.
Memorial donations may be made to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Visitation will be on Saturday January 12, from 3-6 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home P.A. 313 Talbott Ave. Laurel, MD 20707.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 1:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home Chapel, 313 Talbott Ave. Laurel, MD 20707.
Burial will take place at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Laurel.
