Thomas Jones, Jr. Obituary

On April 16, 2019, Thomas D. Jones, Jr., was called home to be with his mother and brother Ivan Marcell Jones. Thomas was the oldest son of Thomas and Sharon Jones, Thomas was born on March 4, 1962, at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, which would not be his last connection with a branch of the Military.

Thomas, along with his brothers, Dwayne and Ivan, were part of a military family. Thomas D. Jones, Sr., retired from a career in the Army. In Thomas' early years he lived in several parts of the United States (Washington State, Kentucky, Alabama, Maryland) and three years overseas in Germany.  During the bulk of his scholastic years, however, he lived in Laurel, Maryland, where he attended Oakland’s Elementary, Eisenhower Junior High School and Laurel Senior High School. During his time at Laurel Senior High School, Thomas was known for his love of the Martial Arts (he loved Bruce Lee), wrestling, boxing and bodybuilding.

Following his graduation from high school, Thomas made a decision to join the Air Force. He committed the bulk of his adult life to the Air Force, finally retiring after 26 years in 2008. During his time in the Air Force, Thomas was awarded: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and several other awards. Following retirement from the Air Force, Thomas worked in IT security in several places outside and inside the United States.

Thomas had a love of travel that came from his days as a military child. He visited many ports around the world including China, Japan, Turkey, Spain, Denmark, Afghanistan (that vacation was planned by the Air Force) and many other places inside and outside of the United States.

Thomas had a passion for life and a love for ALL people. If he wasn't in somebody's gym bodybuilding or power lifting (where he competed and won competitions across the world) he was out on a boat or a pier fishing. Later in life, he would found another passion riding his Harley Davidson and finishing and receiving his Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Security from Grantham University.

Thomas' greatest passion and who he leaves to cherish his precious memories are his children Michael Smoot, Shelia Foster, and Jasmine Jones (his eight-year-old and his joy); Wife, XiaoLan Yan (Zhijian Yan and Xinhua Li) ; Father, Thomas D. Jones, Sr; Siblings, Dwayne Jones (Debbi Jones), Karen Valentine (Ricky Smith), Joanne Jones, and Christopher Jones; Aunts, Eloise Blagmon, Mary Hayes, and Charlotte Jones; Uncles, George C. Small, Jr., and Theodore (Teaspoon) Jones; three nieces, Summer Jones, Toni Smith, and Chantelle Jones; two nephews, Coby Smith, and Noah Jones and a host of relatives and friends across the world.
