Zachary Scott Darnell

Zachary (Zach) Darnell, 26, of Laurel passed away on December 28, 2019.

He was born in 1993 to Ronald (Joe) and Mary Darnell in Laurel, Maryland.

Zach attended Hammond Elementary School,  Hammond Middle School and Reservoir High School. He received his Bachelor of Science from Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, and was currently working on his graduate degree at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) in the United Kingdom as part of the Lacrosse the Pond program. He was a member of the college lacrosse team as well as a club team Wilmslow at MMU.  As a member of the Wilmslow team he traveled to Belgium this past year where they won the Rhino Cup. During his time at Wesley he was on the lacrosse team and was team captain his junior and senior years. He was also named Defensive Player of the Week by the Capital Athletic Conference during his tenure at Wesley. Zach was also an Executive Board member of the National Society of Leadership and Success at Wesley.

Zach was a member of Boy Scout Troop 602 at Emmanuel Methodist Church in Scaggsville and was an avid camper, attending Philmont Scout Camp in New Mexico. He was a lifelong member of Laurel Presbyterian Church and actively involved with the youth, attending retreats and teaching Sunday School.

He was employed at Lacrosse Unlimited from 2011 – 2018 and worked at several of the Maryland stores. While in the UK he was the representative for TRUE Sports Lacrosse.

He is survived by his mother Mary and his brothers Brian and Jason. He was preceded in death by his sister Sara, brother Sean, his father Joe and dear dog Otto.

Viewings will be Friday, January 10, 2020 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD. A memorial service will be at Laurel Presbyterian Church on  Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11:00am.
