Adekunle "Ade" Idreez Shodunke

Mr. Adekunle Idreez Shodunke was born on February 25th, 1955, in Nguru, Borno State, Nigeria to the late Alhaji Rabiu Ademola Shodunke and late Alhaja Amudat Shodunke.  He was the first son of his parents.

Mr. Adekunle Shodunke attended primary catholic school in Nguru and secondary school in Abeokuta. He got his first job as a Clerical Officer at Nigeria Ports Authority Lagos in 1975. He moved on to work for Foremost Dairies Nigeria Limited.  While working, he was also studying to get his Insurance Certification by correspondence through Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) UK, a professional body in Insurance/Financial planning. After obtaining his insurance certification, he secured a position as an insurance officer at Academy Press. He moved on to join Nicholas Kiwi Corporation where he worked as an Insurance Analyst, both jobs were at Ilupeju Industrial Estate in Lagos, Nigeria.  In 1984, Mr. Adekunle Shodunke then went on to obtain an associate degree in Marketing Administration at NIESA, Nigeria. In 1988, Mr. Adekunle Shodunke ventured into the meat packing industry and started a business called Dayjeeade Nigeria Limited which was a major supplier of beef products to Sheraton Hotel Ikeja, Nigeria.  He was also a prominent member of Club 6771 of AISS on Morenikeji street, Off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.

In 1976, he met the love of his life Oluremi Iyabode Ayinde and they got married in 1981. Mr. Adekunle Shodunke and his wife lived in Opebi, Lagos, Nigeria before the family moved to the United States of America in 1993.  He was a loving husband, partner, and best friend to his wife Oluremi. He was a father to 4 male children, a grandfather to 3 grandchildren and a respected paternal figure to many whom he cared for deeply.

Mr. Adekunle Shodunke was a faithful man and firm believer in God.  He was a member of the Tabernacle Church in Laurel, Maryland from 1995 until his passing. He was also an extremely dedicated business owner and entrepreneur, an academic who understood various subjects such as geography, politics, history and many more.  Mr. Adekunle Shodunke helped pioneer the establishment of Target stores in Laurel & Fredrick Maryland. After leaving Target stores, he then ventured back into business as a shipper to Nigeria, and also owned a car dealership.

Mr. Adekunle Shodunke was a proud, hardworking Nigerian man.  He enjoyed different types of music ranging from pop, reggae, juju music and afrobeat. Mr. Adekunle Shodunke was a very jovial, strong, and compassionate family man.  He unapologetically loved children and people from all backgrounds. He was a very friendly man who knew how to put smiles on people’s faces.  He lit up the room when he walked in.

Mr. Adekunle Shodunke passed away on Monday, January 24th, 2022.  He leaves, to cherish his memory, his loyal and faithful wife of 41 years, Oluremi Shodunke, four loving children and their spouses, Olalekan and Olayinka Shodunke, Adedeji and Suliat Shodunke, Babajide Shodunke and Aderemi Oluwaseun Shodunke, three grandchildren Ademide Shodunke, Adedola Shodunke and Amiri Shodunke, many brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many close family friends.  Mr. Adekunle Shodunke will be greatly missed by his family members, friends and loved ones.  May his soul rest in perfect peace.
