Doctor Ahmad Shamim was born in Hamadan, Iran to parents Ali Asghar Shamim and Acieh Matini Shamim. Both his parents were educators. His father was a university professor and author and historian of Iran and world events and his mother was a grade school teacher. He was the second sibling with an older sister Iran and younger brother Iraj. When Ahmad was coming of age, his father suggested that Medicine would be a good fit. Ahmad graduated medical school in 1955 and came to the U.S. in 1957 and started his surgical internship in New York. After extensive training, including a Fellowship in Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Shamim started his private practice in Silver Spring, Maryland and in 1969 relocated to Laurel, Maryland. Dr. Shamim decided in 1976 to change his approach to health, and practice Holistic Medicine. In 2019, he celebrated his fiftieth year in practice at a reception of close to two hundred of his family, patients, and friends.
Dr. Shamim enjoyed family trips to the beach and later travelling which included trips to the Great West and Europe and gardening, the symphony, and the arts.
Dr. Shamim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; his sons: Ahmad Shamim (Rebecca), Michael Shamim, and Philip Shamim; also grandsons: Reilly, Will, Max, Stephen, and Alex Shamim, and relatives in Iran and the U.S..
Services will include two days of visitation, Monday January 2,2023 and Tuesday January 3, 2023 with visitation times of 12 noon to 2:00 P.M. and 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. both days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, Laurel, Maryland at 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Maryland, arrival at 1 p.m.
