Albert E. Lozar passed away on April 25, 2015, he was the beloved husband for 48 years to the late Rosaline E. Lozar (nee Willie) ; loving son of the late Frank and Louise Lozar; devoted brother of John Lozar and the late Frank and Tony Lozar; dear brother-in-law of John and Della Patterson, went home to be with the Lord. He is also survived by several close nephews Dean Patterson and John Patterson Jr and wife Karen, as well as many other nieces and nephews and relations.
Al, as he was affectionately and commonly known, was born at St. Michael, PA in 1928. His father Frank Lozar was born in Yugoslavia, and mother Louise (nee Kitt) Lozar was born in Leoben Austria. After working briefly for the PENN Railroad, he enlisted into the US Army in 1948. Al was stationed and had tours at Ft Deven MA, Ft Bragg NC, National Security Agency/Ft Meade MD, Germany, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. He saw action in both Korea and Vietnam. While serving in Vietnam, after rising to the rank of Master Sergeant, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions during the Tet offensive, when his unit came under mortar, and rocket and ground attack; his actions preventing many injuries and saving lives.
His military awards included the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) W/1st/OLC; Vietnam Service Medal (VSM); REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM COMM MEDAL; Meritorious Unit Commendation (MERIT UNIT CIT); Bronze Star Medal (BSM), Good Conduct Medal (GCMDL) W/6th AWARD; Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM); GCMDL W/7th AWARD.
Upon retiring in 1969 from the US Army, Al and Roz make their home in Bowie at Belair, and were members of St Pius Catholic Church. Al was a successful Real Estate Agent in Prince Georges County, in the greater Bowie area. After retiring from the real estate profession he enjoyed the peace and beauty of gardening and also served as a President of the Laurel Friendship Club.
Relatives and friends may visit at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. 313 Talbott Avenue Laurel, Maryland 20707 on Tuesday from 3 until 6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 am at Saint Mary of the Mills Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery.
