Andrea Maria O’Neill, age 89, passed away on July 22, 2024, in Fulton, MD.

Born April 18, 1935, in Havana, Cuba. Daughter of Obdulia and Donald Ward. She lived in Laurel, MD for most of her life. Her first profession was as a famous singer and performer in Havana, Cuba, appearing on television, in nightclubs, and theatrical productions during the early 60’s. After which, she returned to the United States and worked at the University of Maryland, Dining Services Personnel Division, and retired after 37 years of exemplary service. However, Andrea Maria’s most profound and fulfilling experience was serving as a Lay Missionary of Charity since 1981. She worked with Mother Theresa and her sisters giving aid to the poorest of the poor, and jointly with them to establish the Gift of Peace home to help those suffering from AIDS.

She was a member of St. Mary of the Mills Parish in Laurel, MD. since 1987, and worked as a sacramental minister.

Andrea Maria is survived by her brother, Louis J. Garcia, son, Martin Charles Cohen, daughter, Ana Maizel, son-in-law, Gregg Maizel, granddaughter, Madelaine Marie McConnell, grandson-in-law, Stephen Michael Shurman, and great granddaughter, Finley Marie Freburger.

Visitation – Thursday, August 1 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A.

Funeral Mass - Friday, August 2 at 11AM at Saint Mary of the Mills

Entombment - 1:00PM, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906
