On the morning of June 13, 2022, April Jeanne Curnow of Columbia, Maryland died. April was born in Columbus, Ohio to Alexander and Jeanne Curnow in 1957. She received a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1978 and a master’s degree in medieval French literature from Yale University in 1980. She provided numerous Italian and French translations for scholars and private individuals. She served for 20 years as the children’s reading specialist at Howard County Library. She was actively involved in the local Sherlockians, a literary society dedicated to Sherlock Holmes. An accomplished musician, she sang soprano with Camerata Musica, a madrigal group with which she performed at the Maryland Renaissance Festival between 1986 and 2021. In Camerata , she often helped her fellow members with French and Italian pronunciation. April also created and sang with the group Fol-de-Rol at the Maryland Renaissance Festival from 2008 to 2021. Among her friends she was known for her wonderful sense of humor and contagious laughter. She is preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brother Rodger Curnow, sister-in-law Betsy Curnow, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, people are invited to contribute to Rescu Foundation and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
