Barbara Louise Gebauer, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday January 29, 2024.
Barbara was born on 7/9/1943 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Vincent Best Hall and Mildred Veralee Hill. Barbara grew up in Hyattsville attending Bladensburg High School. She met her lifetime love Gary when they were young and living in the same apartment complex in Hyattsville. Barbara left for college attending Davis and Elkins College and then the University of Pittsburgh where she graduated with a Bachelors in Nursing. She and Gary married in 1967, and they moved to Laurel Maryland where they built a life and lived for 55 years.
She embraced her Laurel community and was active in her neighborhood homeowner’s organization, Girls Scouts troops, school PTAs, Laurel High School Booster Club, local Election board, and a grassroots committee to get the Laurel Regional Hospital built. During her nursing career, Barbara worked in Public Health, private practice, and Anne Arundel County schools before retiring. She enjoyed researching genealogy and spent time travelling to courthouses, cemeteries, and the National Archives to research her family tree. You could find her deep in courthouse documents, family bibles, and grave marker tracings tracking down the family tree to the original immigrants from Europe. She eventually joined the DAR and often said one of the most rewarding experiences with the DAR was attending Naturalization ceremonies and hosting luncheons afterwards for the new American Citizens.
Barbara was an avid Elvis fan, seeing him in concert many times and even chasing down his limo after the shows! She loved a good road trip around the US and dreamed of retiring in a warmer climate but always found herself back in Maryland to be near the family she loved so dearly.
Barbara and Gary were blessed enough to have an Ocean City condo they enjoyed every summer- boating, crabbing, fishing, and spending time with friends. They would come home to Laurel every fall, both happy and tan!
Barbara was of strong faith and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Laurel.
Barbara is survived by her daughter Christine Allyn Gebauer Fritsch and husband Joe, sister Susan Turner, brother Curtis Hall, brother Bruce Hall, brother William Hall, Grandchildren Jodi Yatto (Eric), Jamie Fritsch (Cally), nieces Laurie Wichman (Ernie), Amy Pullan (Kevin), and Amanda Turner, nephew Eric Gebauer, Great grandchildren Brooks, Grady, Wynn, and Gracelyn. She was Aunt Barbara and Miss Barbara to so many more.
