Barbara Johnston

Barbara (Dalseg) Johnston age 81, of Laurel, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born April 9, 1943, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Dalseg and the late Mary Pearl (nee Whirley) Dalseg. Barbara grew up in Chillum, MD later moving to Laurel, MD.

Barbara had a love of God and family which she instilled into her children and grandchildren.

Barbara worked as a beautician for over 50 years.  She worked continuously at the same salon in Hillandale up until her death.  Her regular clients became more than friends, they were considered family members. Barbara was also a lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins.

Barbara was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at the American Legion Post in Laurel where she was a regularly attendee of the Friday Bingo. She was active with the Laurel Senior Friendship Club for many years.

Barbara is survived by her children; Joe Johnston (and his wife Karen), Jennifer Johnston-Mclaughlin (and her husband Richard), grandchildren Daniel, Kristen, Jordan, Kaitlyn, Kevin & Riley.  Barbara is also survived by two sisters in law; Dorothy Dalseg (Bill), and Jean Dalseg (Junior), by her nieces and nephew; Karen DeCapua, Kris Valentine, Anne Valentine, her great niece: Michaella DeCapua, nephew; Jimmy Brotherton.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Johnston, brothers: Al (Junior) Dalseg, William (Bill) Dalseg, Dale Dalseg; sister: Mary Brotherton and nieces and nephew; Allison (Allie) Dalseg, Linda Brotherton, and David Brotherton.

Relatives and friends are welcome at The Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707 on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, 114 St. Mary’s Place, Laurel, MD 20707 on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
