Dr. Barbara Terry-Koroma, 56, of Lanham, MD passed away on January 23, 2013 at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. She was born on August 20, 1956 in Townsville, North Carolina to Elizabeth and the late Robert Lee Terry. Barbara moved to Maryland 17 years ago from North Carolina. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from North Carolina Central University in 1978 and Master of Science degree in 1984. She also received a Ph. D. in cell biology from North Carolina State in 1991 where she was a Delta Sigma Theta. She was a member of the Tabernacle Church of Laurel and served as an Elder and an Associate Minister.
She joined the CDMRP through an Intergovernmental Personnel
Agreement with Battelle Memorial Institute in January 1998. In her tenure
with CDMRP she served as a Program Manager on many military relevant
medical research and minority-focused programs. The programs she managed
focused on the critical medical research needs of the military as well as
disease disparity among other CDMRP-funded research programs.
In addition to her mother, Barbara is survived by her siblings Annie M. Terry, Robert Darnell Terry and the late Betty Jean Terry; nieces and nephews Roderic Darnell Fisher, Rochean Carnell Fisher, Rashanda Denice Holden, Robert Darnell Holden and Robin Denee Williams. She is also survived by 3 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces, her goddaughter Michelle Nurse, and a host of family and great friends.
