Bernard McNaughton, Master Chief, USN Ret.
Bernie "Pepe" passed away at his home in Laurel, on Thusday, August 30, 2012. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Terry, and stepdaughter Joan Hutchins. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Gloria Ferraiuolo, and grandchildren Bobby, Terry, John, Mike, Lisa and Chris and several great-grandkids. One of 10 siblings, he is also survived by a brother, Jimmy, and two sisters, Lillian and Judy, and nieces and nephews in MN and special caregivers, his nieces Debbie and Carole. He will be remembered by his loyal friend, Wayne, and companion Franca.
Born in Anoka, MN, Bernie joined the Navy at 17 and served during WWII. On D-day, he was in Normandy on the USS Saterlee. Upon retirement from the Navy, he utilized his communication skills and completed a second career with the NSA. He enjoyed practicing Morse code and was an amateur ham radio operator. Bernie was an active member of Resurrection parish, the American Legion and the VFW. He was an avid fisherman and spent the last dozen years at his cabin on a lake in MN enjoying retirement.
Interment private at MD Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8724 Jericho City Dr., Landover, MD 20785
