Betty L. Fickes

October 3, 1947 — January 15, 2024

Betty L. Fickes was born in 1947 to Benjamin and Dorothy Morgan in Little Rock, Arkansas. She passed away on January 16, 2024, in Columbia, Maryland. Betty is survived by her sons Scott and Shawn, her six grandchildren, her brother JP, and her sister Barbara. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Stanley Fickes, Sr., and her sister Val.

Betty worked as a hairstylist for most of her life in a variety of settings. Many of her customers became dear friends. She had the uncanny ability to get along with anyone.

She will be remembered for many things. She was a kind, funny, and loving person. She opened her heart and home to all. In fact, she was often referred to by her sons’ friends as everyone’s mom.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Takoma Park Fire Department. She was also the vice-president of the Montgomery County Ladies Auxiliary. She was passionate about helping out the firefighter community because of her husband who was a retired Fire Chief.

She was always willing to pitch in and help at church events. She was always ready to host a party! She hosted birthday parties, holiday parties, and showers through the years.

Every Christmas, her son spent hours putting up decorations. She had outside lights and several trees in the house. There were also multiple trains. It was one of the most festive houses on the street.

She also loved teddy bears. They adorned her living room sofas. They were some of the best dressed bears you had even seen.

Betty loved spending time with her sons and grandchildren. She would do anything for her family.  She touched the lives of so many people. She will be deeply missed.
