Betty Jane Johnson

Betty S. Johnson, 90, of Ashton, Maryland passed away peacefully at home on 16 August 2026.

Born 10 January 1936 in Denton, NC, Betty lived a life of faith and deep commitment to family and friends. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church from growing up in rural North Carolina to being an active member of Ashton United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women and Stephen’s Ministry.

Betty was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers college in Boone, NC (Appalachian State University now) earning a Bachelor of Science in Education. After getting married in August of 1958, she and Paul moved to Maryland, where she went on to teach elementary school in Montgomery County as well as working in the school systems main office for several years.

She was married for 67 years to her husband Paul, sharing a life rooted in Christian values, family and friends. She moved to being a fulltime mom as kids came into the picture, raising three kids and running the home. Betty had a passion for sewing, cooking and baking including Chinese food cooking classes and baking all kinds of cakes and pies and would share her recipes with whomever asked. Betty loved family history and did a lot of genealogy work including some research in Germany and she and her sister would often stay up for hours talking about their family heritage.

Betty is survived by: Son Eric (Ann) - Zach (Carly), Steven (Maggie) and Caroline, Ethan (Jamie), Megan; Son Craig (Laura) - Wyatt (Destyni) and Colton and Owen, Hunter, Liam; Daughter Debra - Lilly and Maddie; Sister Nancy (Boyce); Brother David (Nancy); and extended family including - 3 nieces, 3 nephews, 7 grandnieces/nephews and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents David Lee and Minnie, niece Julia and nephew David.
