Betty Jenkins-Evans

December 30, 1937 — December 6, 2017

Betty Jenkins-Evans departed this world and entered into the loving hands of God on December 6, 2017.  Her daughter Wanda stayed by her side day and night until her passing.

Born December 1937 in Washington D.C. to Berklin and Edith Jenkins, Betty was educated in the Washington D.C. Public Schools.  One of nine children, Betty was preceded in death by her older brother Fred, and sisters Berkaline and Barbara.  She leaves behind her brother Thomas, sisters Norma, Phyllis, Freida and Teresa, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was more like a mother to her siblings, and she loved them dearly.

As a devoted mother, Betty’s greatest joy was her daughter Wanda and her husband Eric.  She loved her daughter more than life itself, and was her heart and soul.  Betty and Wanda were always laughing, singing and enjoying each other’s company.  They were more than mother and daughter, they were best friends.  Betty wanted for nothing as her daughter made sure she got whatever she asked for.  Wanda would say to her, you did it for me Mom, now it’s my turn.

Betty loved her family very much, and spoke frequently with them.  She was lovable and friendly, and was always there when you needed her.  She enjoyed singing, cooking, watching British television and classic movies, and talking for hours with her daughter.

Composed by Betty for her own obituary, she leaves us with these words:

You bade no farewell

You said good bye to none

You closed your weary eyes

And a loving voice said

Come Family

We will miss her deeply.
