Betty Marie (Bell) Moore, 89, of Laurel, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Washington, D.C., to James and Evelyn Bell, Betty graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1954 and went on to build a long career as an administrative assistant. While she worked faithfully and diligently throughout her life, her greatest work — and greatest joy — was her family.
Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loyal friend. She was known for her boundless kindness, generous spirit, and deep love of reading. But more than anything, she was unforgettable.
She was a force of nature who lived with vibrant, unfiltered joy — always ready to “do something, even if it’s wrong.” From being crowned Queen of the Girl Scouts at age 12, to teaching exercise classes to fellow seniors, to dressing up as a clown in her 70s to entertain residents in nursing homes, Betty embraced life fully and fearlessly. She laughed loudly, loved deeply, and brought energy into every room she entered.
She was the matriarch of her family — the steady presence, the trusted confidante, the storyteller, and often, the life of the party. Her home was a gathering place, her advice was treasured, and her hugs were legendary.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James and Evelyn Bell; her beloved husband of 52 years, William “Bill” Moore; her brother, James Bell Jr.; and her son-in-law, Dwight Peters.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Patricia Marion (Mike), Laura Rousseau (Steve), Kathryn Peters, and Michelle Camba (Gary); her eight grandchildren; and her ten great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her spirit forward.
A Celebration of Life will be held in late June to honor what would have been Betty’s 90th birthday. Family and friends are invited to reach out to a family member for additional details.
A mother’s love is something a child carries for a lifetime. Thank you, Mom, for a lifetime of love.
Betty — Mom — Granny Moore — will be deeply missed and forever held in our hearts.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of A-1 Action Nursing Care, especially Connie and Cathy, and to Hospice of the Chesapeake for their compassionate and devoted care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake or the Alzheimer’s Association in Betty’s memory.
