Betty Wingfield

In loving memory of “Grandmere”.

On Sunday, July 10, 2016, Betty S.Wingfield of Laurel, MD passed away in Washington, D.C. Betty was born on August 20, 1923 on the estate of Thomas Johnson, first elected governor of the State of Maryland. She grew up in Elkins, West Virginia, where she met the love of her life, Dr. Robert C. Wingfield. Betty was a graduate of Elkins High School, Potomac State, and Thomas Jefferson University. Betty and Bob eventually settled in Laurel, Maryland. Betty was known for being a humble, gracious, and one-of-a-kind lady who was devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed her time with friends playing bridge, golfing, and gardening. She was an active member of the Snow Hill Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, and was very involved with her community. She is preceded in death by her father, Johnson Sites; mother, Julia Johnson Sites; husband, Dr. Robert Clark Wingfield, and her son, Thomas Johnson Wingfield. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Worth; son-in-law, Jonathan Worth Sr.; daughter-in-law, Annette Wingfield; grandchildren, Maxwell Wingfield, Sarah Wingfield Berman, William Wingfield, Jonathan Worth Jr., Jayne Worth, and Kathleen Worth; and great grand-children, Thomas Johnson Berman and Betty Wingfield Berman. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24 from 2 until 4pm, at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A.
