Beverley “Bev” Lee Alexander, of Kensington, Md., died on March 7, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on December 2, 1931, in New Market, Va. to William and Goldie Alexander, Bev planted roots in Howard County early in his life when he began his career at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics lab on March 12, 1951, at 19 years old. Viriginia still held a special place in his heart, as his second house in Winchester was one of his favorite places to visit.

Bev had a storied career at “APL”, receiving many awards and retiring after 73 years of dedicated employment on March 31, 2024. He was able to enjoy deep sea diving while conducting research for APL, even being one of the first contributors to the underwater camera. After retirement he still enjoyed adding to his collection of sharks teeth and sand dollars that began with his APL diving expeditions. In his free time on the weekends, Bev also loved taking trips to Walmart and Cracker Barrel.

Preceded in death by his parents, in addition to his brother Robert G. Alexander and Sister Polly A. Alexander, Bev is survived by his dear wife, Nancy Coon; Stepchildren Douglas Coon, Julianne Harris, and Steven Coon; Brother William “Bill” F. Alexander; Sister Peggy A. Alexander; in addition to family, he leaves behind many dear friends.

A visitation will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. Chapel on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 1pm. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 2pm. A private burial will be held the following day in his hometown of New Market, Va.
