Billy Joe Baker, of Burtonsville, Maryland, passed away on December 7, 2025. He was born in Union City, Indiana, and graduated from Westside High School in Union City.

Billy was the son of Ethel and Lawrence Baker. He served his country with honor in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He continued his dedication to public service at the National Security Agency, completing a remarkable total of 46 years of government service. He worked as an electrical engineer and was respected for his skill, commitment, and professionalism.

A proud Mason, Billy was a member of Laurel Wreath Lodge No. 149 and held the esteemed distinction of being a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He loved to travel, especially on cruises, and made several trips to Australia. His Air Force duty assignments took him to Greece and England—places he cherished and often spoke of. He enjoyed collecting art glass, pottery, and porcelain, and he had a strong interest in genealogy research.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents and his four siblings: Bob, Elvin, Delbert, and Betty.

He is survived by his two children, Bonnie Mayberry (Ted) and James Baker (Betty Jo); his grandchildren Jennifer, Jamie, and Bobby Jo; seven great-grandchildren; and three nieces and two nephews. He also maintained close friendships with many coworkers, classmates, and the servicemen he served alongside in the Air Force.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to his devoted caregivers, Uche Alika and Promise Khawula of Senior Care Safe At Home, as well as longtime friends Sandra Queensberry, Tracey Phelps, and George and Maureen Diaz for their support, care, and companionship.

Visitation will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. 313 Talbott Avenue Laurel, Maryland 20707 on December 15, 2025 from 3:00–5:30 PM, with a Masonic tribute service at 5:30 PM. Burial will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
