Peacefully, on July 10th, Callie Amos Cooke, Sr. passed from this world. Born in Williamsburg, VA, on August 10th, 1938, he grew up in the Shenandoah Valley town of Limeton. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Carol E. Mauck, in 1958, the couple moved to Prince Georges County, MD. He worked 41 years for the A&P food chain as a meat cutter and member of the old Amalgamated Local #593 and the Commercial Food Workers Local #400.
“Cookie”, as he was known to his co-workers, had a variety of interests including beach combing for fossils, bird watching, bluegrass music, model trains, and collecting Christmas memorabilia.
A devoted family man, he leaves his grieving wife of 67 years, Carol Cooke. In addition to his wife, his surviving family includes daughter Christie Harden (Barry); sons Callie Jr., John, and Samuel; grandchildren Christopher Robey (Rachel), Hanna Padova, Caten Cooke, and Piper Cooke; sisters Helen Cleary, Jane Studley, Ronnee Manuel, Charlene Collins, and Rhonda Romer (Kevin); brothers Larry Cooke and Jeff Cooke; in laws Helen Pickens (Ed), Nancy Hensel (Winston), and Judy Shurtz (Wendell); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
