Charles William Wentling, Ii

Charles William Wentling II, 88, of Laurel, MD passed away at his home on September 28, 2022.  He was born on April 1, 1934, in Harrisburg, PA, to Charles and Catharine Wentling.

Charles attended Pennsylvania State University in York, PA and received an Associate degree in electrical engineering.  He served in the U.S. Navy and later worked for the Naval Surface Warfare Center in White Oak, MD, most recently as a contract negotiator until his retirement in 1994 after 37 years of service.

Charles was devoted to his family and was a longtime member of Laurel Presbyterian Church.  He enjoyed sports, with golf being a favorite, and he also liked playing games with family and friends.  He was always interested in trying new things.  After his retirement, he enjoyed taking trips and pursuing various building and craft hobbies.  He was truly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Joan Y. Wentling; daughter Kim L. VandenAssem (Christian) and son Michael C. Wentling (Yulia); granddaughter Chelsea E. Esworthy (Timothy); step-granddaughters Anna Nemchinova and Alexandra Nemchinova; great-granddaughters Nina L. Esworthy and Amelia J. Esworthy; brother-in-law Don M. Knerr (Fern); as well as 6 nieces (Valerie, Hilary, Mary, Pennelope, Ashleigh, and Lauren) and 6 nephews (Mark, Charles, Scot, Bill, Don, and Steven) and their families.  Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca C. Holmes, and his parents.

Visitation will take place at Laurel Presbyterian Church (7610 Old Sandy Spring Rd., Laurel, MD, 20707) on Saturday, October 8, 2022, starting at 12 noon with a service immediately following from 1-2 pm.  Burial will be at the Herndon Cemetery in Herndon, PA the following week.
