Cheryl Carter Claus passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. She was 68 years old.

Born on September 22, 1956, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert Earle Carter and the late Ruby Stepson Carter. Sherry grew up in Hyattsville, MD, and later moved to Laurel, MD.

After graduating high school, she worked for the U.S. District Court. Sherry served briefly with the United States Park Police in Washington, D.C., where she met her loving husband of 36 years, Robert Joseph Claus. She then returned to work for the U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, MD.

She is survived by and was the cherished mother of Alison Claus Lotz (and her husband, Tyler James Lotz) of Charleston, SC. Sherry is also survived by her three brothers: Robert Carter Jr. (and his wife, Dolly) of Lusby, MD; Steven Carter (and his wife, Brenda) of Bluffton, SC; and William Carter of Hyattsville, MD.

Sherry was known for her caring and compassion for others, always placing their needs before her own. She loved working in her garden and spoiling her granddog, Teddy.

A celebration of life will be held privately for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
